MIRAGE - CONCEPT

Mirage is a pavilion that uses the concept of light and waves to create a coloured distortion in the landscape of the Queen Victoria Gardens.  Through the use of undulating transparent acrylic tubes coated in thin dichroic film, the pavilion is given an optical quality similar to one as a mirage as this surface film will use the interference of light to produce an array of colours at any viewing angle.

What is it?

A mirage is an optical illusion created when light travels through air and is refracted due to the different temperature differences creating a shimmering distortion. I have decided to expand on this illusion effect by using a dichroic film. This consists of multiple layers that will take the light coming in, pass through the filters and output different coloured light of the spectrum. As such, depending on the sun direction, its position in the structure as light passes through multiple tubes, and angle it is viewed at.
